EDIT 4100-01 Group 11: Rene, Crystal, and Dalaina - Computational Thinker

Summary: The ISTE standard for Computational Thinking is mainly supporting all educators who wish to make their dreams come true. The ISTE standard for computational thinking involves mainly educators’ mindsets, their knowledge, and their skills. The aspect that we decided to write about would be Equity Leader (Leader). Equity Leaders stood out to us the most because the leaders (the teachers) have the opportunity to become Computational Thinkers like their students. In this specific aspect of Computational Thinking, both teachers and their students can give each other the help, support, and even better communicate with each other. Being an Equity Leader in Computational Thinking is important because it can also provide citizenship, leadership, following directions, and communicating with one another. Without Equity Leaders as an aspect, it makes it difficult for educators to create professional goals and to realize that computing and society work best with many opportunities. We feel that there should be more Equity Leaders in classrooms because they would make classrooms a much better learning environment for students to grow and excel.

Learning activities with the selected educational technologies and ISTE standards for learners:

Educational Activity 1

Exploring patterns and data with bread tags and plastic lids; Can be used for exploring ways in data or collecting, exploring, and sorting data. Both activities can be integrated with technology.

For example, Students can blend designs into solutions to fundamental problems using a cycle of steps and decisions.

Students assemble common data and present them to relate meaning.

The students formulate and organize ideas using information systems and share information in safe online environments.

Educational Activity 2

Lightbot; It is a universal device programming puzzle app. Students become robotics engineers, learning about coding concepts while the student guides a robot to solve a problem and light up tiles.

Free Website/App for Students

Quizlet

One website that is extremely helpful for students is Quizlet. Quizlet is a free website that allows students to create flashcards, practice quizzes, and many other things that can help students study for class and any upcoming tests. Quizlet allows students to review their flashcards as often as needed, tells the students when they answered a question wrong and allows them to add descriptions to their flashcards to help them understand their flashcards more. What’s excellent about Quizlet is that it is a website, but it is also a free app that students can download on their phones or tablets and can help them study anywhere at any time.

Quizlet and ISTE Student Standards

Quizlet can help students with ISTE standards 1.3 (Knowledge Constructor) and 1.5 (Computational Thinker). When creating flashcards and practice quizzes on Quizlet, students have to pick and choose what information they believe is important to add to their flashcards. It forces them to sift through relevant and irrelevant information. Since students have complete control over their Quizlet, they can choose how they format their flashcards and practice quizzes. They can fully use Quizlet to develop their flashcards, so they go more in-depth on whatever they are studying. Another helpful thing about Quizlet is that students can use their flashcards to study with their peers. It isn’t just for one person to use. They can study with their peers and even create flashcards with each other.
